GENERAL DUTIES
Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation, maintenance, adjustments, testing and repair of steam power plant, air conditioning, chiller plant, fire protection systems, electro-mechanical building equipment and related auxiliary systems in public buildings; performs related work.
Operates, maintains repairs and adjusts manuals and automatic gas and oil fired boilers, furnaces, steam reducing stations, engines, turbines , pumps, valves, heat exchangers, generators, motors, water treatment systems, cooling towers, condensers, evaporators, emergency generators and associated equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and lighting in public buildings.
Performs periodic inspections of equipment and repairs of such equipment.
Schedules, performs and may oversee preventive maintenance.
Directs the work of oilers, high-pressure plant tenders and other subordinate personnel assigned to HVAC plant operations.
Takes responsible charge of a watch and while so engaged, supervises and directs subordinates personnel; addresses emergency repairs as required.
Operates control consoles in control rooms for building maintenance and building automation systems.
Adjusts HVAC systems water chemistry through testing, treatment, retesting and recording of readings.
Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts in accordance with College procedures.
Orients, trains and monitors subordinates and other personnel on plant operations and job related safety.
Reads meters, gauges and other recording devices keeping logs of same.
Prepares and maintains records and makes reports of both a technical and informational nature regarding HVAC maintenance and repair.

Queensborough Community College Department of Buildings and Grounds seeks a Stationary Engineer who will be responsible for maintenance and operations of noted equipment in the operation plant:
-Central Boiler Plant ,High Pressure Boilers , pumps, heat exchangers, chemicals, Fuel oil stations, Fuel oil pumps. High pressure gas train.
-Central Chiller plant including, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, Chemical station.
- HTHW fired Absorbers, including vacuum pumps, secondary system pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers.
-Steam generators, Condensate pumps, Air compressors.
-Laboratory Equipment, Fume hoods and Vacuum pump system.
-Air Handlers, Roof top package units. Exhaust fans.
-Emergency Generators.
-Swimming pool equipment.
-Building safety systems.
This position is designated as an essential employee position. Essential employees are those required to report to work even when the University and/or College operations are suspended.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A valid License for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
A valid certificate of qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (unlimited Capacity) issued by the New York City Fire Department and a Universal CFC Certificate issued by EPA for Handling Refrigerants.
For appointment in certain Colleges, candidates will also be required to possess one or more of the following:
A valid Citywide Standpipe Certificate issued by the New York Fire Department (S13)
A valid Citywide Automatic Sprinkler Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department (S12)
A valid Interior Fire Alarm Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department
A valid Pool Operator’s certificate issued by a Qualified Swimming Pool Water Treatment Operator Provider
Notes:
Some of the physical activities performed by Stationary Engineers and environmental conditions experience are working in confined areas in a physical plant, including boiler room, heating and ventilating room, walking up and down stairs, climbing up and down ladders, handling chemicals, and being around hazardous materials such as asbestos and infectious waste.
All licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Queensborough Community College is seeking to fill the position of CUNY Start English Instructor.
CUNY Start is an intensive pre-matriculation program that helps CUNY degree-seeking students with significant academic needs achieve college-level proficiency in English and/or mathematics. The CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, the University’s community colleges, New York City College of Technology, and the College of Staten Island work collaboratively to provide students with an innovative approach to developmental education. CUNY Start is recognized for its carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, ongoing professional development, and mentor-based training model.
Persons employed in the title of CUNY Start Instructor shall be assigned to teach and perform related functions as part of the CUNY Start program. The CUNY Start Instructors are full-time, non-tenure track positions.
The CUNY Start English Instructor possesses a clear understanding of CUNY Start’s English curriculum and the program’s pedagogical approaches for developing students’ readiness for college-level work.
Reporting to the CUNY Start Director, the Instructor will perform the following and other related duties as assigned:
Teach two CUNY Start English classes of approximately 25 students each semester, using a CUNY Start curriculum;
Teach CUNY Start curriculum in a well-managed in-person or online classroom that engages students in a manner consistent with CUNY Start’s pedagogical approaches;
Collaborate closely with program advisors, instructional teams, and administration;
Comment on student papers to encourage development and revision;
Provide individual and small group assistance to students outside of class, as appropriate;
Refer and guide students to CUNY Start tutoring for individual support outside of class;
Provide tutoring, as needed;
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and such other qualifications as may be necessary for the satisfactory performance of his/her instructional functions.
Please note that only current and former CUNY employees who successfully completed at least one term as a Cooperating Reading/Writing (English) Continuing Education Teacher in the CUNY Start program are eligible to apply, as this experience is required to be appointed to the CUNY Start Instructor title.

The Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance at Queensborough Community College invites applications for a CUNY Office Assistant position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Part-time experience of at least 20 hours per week may be prorated by half and credited instead of, but not in addition to, full-time experience during the same period (e.g., two month’s related work experience at 20-34 hours per week equate to one month’s full-time related work experience.) Part-time experience of fewer than 20 hours per week will NOT be credited at all.
The high school diploma or its educational equivalent must be approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization. The college or university must be accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

COMPENSATION
*New Hire: $35,588
Incumbent: $40,215
- This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
