How to Apply as an International Student

To be considered for admission, international students who intend to apply for an F-1 visa are expected to meet the following general requirements:

Step 1: Submit your CUNY application after paying the required fee. Make sure to select Queensborough Community College on your application.

Step 2: Submit proof of graduation from an accredited secondary school. If you have attended a university, please submit your official university transcripts in addition to secondary school documents. Students have several options to submit their documents.

Step 3: If you are from a non-English speaking country, you must establish proficiency in English by submitting one of the following scores: TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Academic or Duolingo. Click here to review the required score for each exam. Please note –In addition to submitting scores for one of the following English proficiency exams listed above, all international students are required to take CUNY’s ESL test upon arrival to the US for course placement purposes.

Step 4: Accepted students should review the Admitted Students page to learn about their next steps in the enrollment process. Those applying for an F-1 visa should skip Step 4: Apply for Federal/State Aid as this information only pertains to eligible US citizens and residents who may qualify for federal and state aid.

Please review the instructions below to complete your application in its entirety and ensure you receive your acceptance in a timely manner.

Freshman Applicants

Option 1:

Freshman applicants who plan to apply only to QCC can submit their documents directly to the Office of Admissions. Please see the list of required documents below:

Required Documents:

  1. Academic Records:
  2. Admissions staff will conduct an initial review of your documents to determine if they meet CUNY’s guidelines for admissions. If admitted, additional information will be provided via email regarding the next steps in the enrollment process. Our initial review can take between 3 – 5 business days.

    Documents that do not appear to meet the University’s guidelines will be forwarded to CUNY’s University Application Processing Center (UAPC). The UAPC will conduct a review and applicants will be notified as to whether additional documents are needed to complete the process. Documents submitted to the UAPC may take up to 10-12 weeks for a complete review.


Option 2:

Freshmen Applicants who are planning to apply to multiple CUNY Schools:

Submit  proof of graduation​ from all accredited secondary school or a foreign equivalent directly to CUNY’s University Admissions Processing Center. Documents should be submitted to the applicable address below:

Documents submitted directly to the UAPC must be in English. If your documents are in a language other than English, they must be translated and submitted along with the original official documents. Submissions to the UAPC may take between 10-12 weeks for a complete review.  Please use the following document translation guide to prepare all document translations.



Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants who plan to apply only to QCC can submit the following documents directly to the Office of Admissions:

Applicants will be notified by the UAPC if additional documents are required to complete the process. Documents submitted to the UAPC can take up to 10-12 weeks for a complete review.


Option 2:

Transfer Applicants who plan to apply to multiple CUNY schools must submit the following documents directly to CUNY’s University Application Processing Center (UAPC):

  • Proof of graduation​ from all accredited secondary schools or a foreign equivalent

Admissions and U.S. Entry Information

Steps to become an F–1 students:

  1. Once admitted to QCC, students will need to meet with their academic advisor to register for classes.
  2. An International student advisor will assist all international students in obtaining their I-20 before applying for an F-1 visa.
