Reports 2017-2018

Report on activities of the Tech and e-Resource Committee

The committee held its first meeting to elect the officers on October 4, 2017. The results are:

  • Co-chairs: Dr. Yusuf Gurtas and Dr. Bianca Sosnovski
  • Secretary: Dr. Fei Ye
  • Members: Eva Dabkowska, Dr. Robert Donley, Kenneth Schmidt and Dr. Biao Wang

A survey was sent to the department on October 23, 2017, to determine the presentations/workshops on technology the faculty members are interested in.

Subcommittees formed at the meeting on November 1, 2017, as follows:

Maintaining the committee's webpage and contact persons.

Kenneth and Bianca are responsible for the maintenance of the webpage of the committee.

Maintaining repository

Yusuf is responsible for the maintenance of the departmental repository.

Workshops

Biao and Robert will be inviting faculty members (not from the committee) to give workshops/presentations and take care of logistics.

Training

Ewa and Fei are in charge of the training/workshops given by the committee members.

Bianca introduced the new web page for the committee at the Feb 4, 2018, meeting. Yusuf shared the survey results at the same meeting. It was decided that there is a general interest for workshops/trainings on online HW systems, such as WebWork, Maple TA. There is also interest in online teaching and some teaching related software programs. Tentative dates set as Feb 28, and April 18, 2018. Kwang Kim joined the meeting as a guest and shared his thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of migrating the departmental repository to a local server. It was decided to keep the current location for the time being.

The committee invited Dr. Zeynep Akcay to give a presentation on online teaching in conjunction with the Professional Development Committee. Dr. Akcay gave a presentation titled “OHT 101 – Introduction to Online/Hybrid Teaching” on Feb 28, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The committee invited Dr. Karan Puri and Dr.Jonathan Cornick to run a workshop on Maple TA. They offered a workshop on Maple TA on April 18, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The committee organized a workshop on WeBWorK on April 18, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The presenters were Dr. Bianca Sosnovski and Eva Dabkowska.
