Course Description in college catalog:
This course emphasizes reading and comprehension of authentic texts, including newspaper or magazine articles, and excerpts from contemporary literary works. More complex grammar and vocabulary are introduced through discussion of selected social and cultural issues presented in the reading material. Weekly listening, speaking and viewing activities online or in the language laboratory are part of the course.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Comprehend an original Italian movie, and identify and examine important cultural elements such as idioms, gestures, cultural events, etc.
- Express preferences and make suggestions in oral and written form, on selected issues presented in the movie.
- Summarize a complex plot, and understand its implications.
Methods by which student learning will be assessed and evaluated; describe the types of methods to be employed; note whether certain methods are required for all sections:
Your speaking skills will be assessed by evaluating your level of comprehensibility, and fluency, and your use of vocabulary in completing communicative tasks or oral narrations/presentations.
Your listening comprehension abilities will be assessed by evaluating your understanding of oral messages including film dialogues, interviews, etc.
Your reading skills will be assessed by evaluating your understanding of short stories, passages from a movie script, and any other authentic reading material.
Your writing skills (including knowledge of grammar) will be assessed by evaluating the level of comprehensibility and lexical/grammatical accuracy of your written samples consisting of descriptions, narrations, or summaries.
