Academic Support
We at the Counseling Center understand how difficult it can be to do well in school. Many students struggle with their adjustment to college, balancing school with other responsibilities, or concentrating on their academics due to personal issues. Those students may begin to do poorly in their courses, and find it hard to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress at QCC. Satisfactory academic progress is measured as follows:
Academic Standing
Remaining in Good Academic Standing
All students face academic probation or dismissal if they do not maintain good academic standing. Students maintain good academic standing when they demonstrate Satisfactory Academic Progress (by meeting the standards for an acceptable grade-point average as shown in the chart below).
Satisfactory academic progress is measured by the achievement of the following minimum GPA in relation to the number of credits attempted.

Academic Notice
Students are placed on academic notice when their cumulative GPA has fallen below the requirements established for good academic standing. Students placed on academic notice must demonstrate improved academic achievement at the end of the probation semester.
- Since improvement in the quality of their course work is required, students on academic notice may enroll for no more than 13 units/credits including remedial units.
- During the semester on notice, students must also satisfactorily complete any remedial courses that they are required to take.
- Students on academic notice who achieve the required minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 by the end of the semester will be considered in good academic standing and no longer on probation.
- Those who do not meet the required minimum cumulative GPA but who achieve a GPA of at least 2.00 for the semester will be placed on Continued Notice for one semester.
- Those students who do not achieve a semester GPA of 2.00 or above while on Continued Notice will be academically dismissed.
Continued Notice
Continued notice serves as a second and final warning to students who have demonstrated some improvement, that they must further improve their academic performance to retain their enrolled status. These students are limited to 13 credits/units including remedial units for the semester, must satisfactorily complete required remedial courses, and must meet the required minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Students not meeting all of these conditions by the end of the semester will be dismissed from the College. Students may appeal to the Committee on Course and Standing.
Academic Dismissal
Students who are academically dismissed may not enroll in any courses at Queensborough or at any other unit of The City University of New York for a period of one semester. Dismissed students are urged to resolve problems that interfere with their studies before applying for readmission.
