The chair welcomed new member Angela Ridinger-Dotterman  who is replacing Tanya Zhelezcheva who is on FMLA. She has also just gotten word that WeiLai is also on FMLA and will seek a replacement.

The chair reported that she spoke to a few people about our change in charges and was told the changes had to go through the by-laws committee. She submitted some of our paperwork, and then spoke to the chair of the By-laws committee and was told the committee just needs to add the old charges and the new charges and that the new charges has to have the proper "legalese". We are currently waiting on some feedback from the By-Laws committee before we make our next update on the rest of our documentation.

The chair then asked for volunteers to write for the May newsletter. The following people did:

Emily, Angela, Ida

Angela asked for suggestions on what to write and numerous suggestions were made , such as problems in Bright space, how to do something in Brightspace. also any writeup on a professional development you have attended might also be helpful. Any article about AI in the classroom.

Barbara will try to make a contribution but didn't want to commit.

The committee also discussed how students are using AI (chat GPT in particular) and the challenges faced by faculty in this enviroment.

Denis gave us an update on Brightspace:
1) the are debugging many minor issues with CUNY Central

2) CUNY excluding  many online proctoring services, because of cost. They are not promising anything but at

3)  Rumor that turn-it-in mght go away - contract not renewed - not ADA compliant

4) Mid December - Blackboard will be shutdown - they will post information

videos are still stored on blackboard

5) Offered 12 workshops - very low attendance - changing back to webinars because of better attendance

Barbara told Denis the Demo student feature was realy helpful

Chair ask for any other items to discuss and then adjurned the meeting

Respectfully submitted by:

Barbara Frary
