The Academic Senate Committee on eLearning met on October 13, 2022 at 3:13 PM RFK-216,Zoom

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 3:16 PM

    1. Minutes from the last meeting approved.
    2. A discussion of when eLearning Committee meetings should take place. Punita suggested the possibility of moving the meeting to 4:10 pm. The committee voted and approved for the time change.  
    3. The Academic Senate Steering Committee recently sent out an email to all chairs and secretaries that committee meetings must movetoward an in-person on-campus quorum. Anthony informed the committee that the Steering Committee will be fairly flexible at first, as long as somebody is on campus conducting the meeting. Thus, Anthony is offering that members can choose for now whether they want to attend through zoom or in-person. He will either invite members to his office to join or reserve a room.
    4. As per the agenda, Denis was supposed to attend this meeting to present two things, but he had to cancel. He will come to the next meeting.
    5. Anthony reminded the committee that we need to work on eLearning newsletter.
      1. Punita said she could write something about VoiceThread
      2. Perhaps we could compile a list of resources
      3. Anthony said he would reach out to Susan Lago and interview her about her Hyflex experience.
      4. Anthony asked everyone to think about ideas for the Fall newsletter
    6. CUNY hired a new Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Strategy and Operations. CUNY is going to have a new LMS. Margot informed the committee that CUNY will be switching to BrightSpace from D2L, and there will be a period of time when ppl can continue to use Blackboard while they are learning BrightSpace. The change is supposed to happen by the end of Fall 2023.
    7. Margot Edlin mentioned that a new committee has been formed to come up with the criteria for Excellence in Teaching award. Dr Kerri-Ann Smith has been designated the chair of this committee. They are currently coming up with what they think should be the qualities that make up teaching excellence for the purposes of the award, and it’s important to note excellence in online teaching is a major component. Anthony will reach out to Kerri-Ann.
    8. Tony suggested that something about BrightSpace be included in the Spring 2023 newsletter.
    9. Celia informed the committee that the Criminal Justice Degree Program is going to be offering an entirely online track starting in Fall 2023. Faculty just met and they are initiating the process and making sure it meets the standards of the college.
    10. Anthony will talk to Steven Dahlke about moving time to 4:10 pm and there will also be a room number announced shortly. The next meeting will be hybrid.
