Dr. Patrick Byers

Dr. Patrick Byers is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Queensborough Community College. He earned a B.A. at Clark University in Worcester Ma, and a Ph.D. at the CUNY Graduate Center, both in psychology. Since 2012, he has taught in the CUNY system. In addition to teaching, he has a background in research on human development, including basic research on children's cognitive development and applied educational research on children's media for the Department of Education. Dr Byers's recent research has focused on language use. His dissertation focused on the conditions in which someone can be meaningfully said to 'know something'. His most recent work has studied the ways in which mentalistic terms such as 'attitude,' 'belief,' and 'desire' are used in both psychology and in stories to make sense of people's behavior.
