CUNY/OMH Mental Health Scholarship Program for Those Committed to Diversifying the Behavioral Health Workforce

Expanding and Diversifying the Mental Health Professionals Pipeline

Governor Hochul has given two million dollars to CUNY in an effort to diversify the mental health workforce with greater participation from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. A diverse workforce results in greater patient/client satisfaction, engagement, and retention in care. At Queensborough, students who are in the PSYC AS program are encouraged to apply (see the qualifications below). Successful applicants will receive $1,000 in the form of a research scholarship or a paid internship focused on topics related to mental health. 

Requirements

Applicant must meet all seven requirements below.

  1. Commitment to increasing the diversity of the behavioral health workforce in regard to those who are Hispanic (including Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Latinx and Spanish origin), African American/Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Asian (including Indian subcontinent and Philippines origin) or from any other underrepresented group. And, commitment to diversity the workforce in regard to those who are multilingual.
  2. Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  3. Be a resident of New York State
  4. Be in good academic standing (2.5 cumulative grade point average or better)
  5. Be enrolled as PSYC AS major
  6. Maintain full time status.
  7. Be at least a second-year undergraduate student (at least 30 earned credits).
