Dr. Julia Rothenberg

Julia Rothenberg is an associate professor of Sociology at Queensborough Community College, CUNY, where she teaches courses in Sociology of the Arts, Urban Sociology and Introductory Sociology. Julia has published in the areas of sociology of art, urban sociology, sociological pedagogy, and social theory. Her works include “Teaching Sociology of the Arts at an Urban Community College During the Pandemic: Reflections on Structure, Agency, and Community Engagement” in Teaching Sociology (2024); “Repurposing the Black Arts Movement on the South Side of Chicago” in Sociology Looks at the Arts (Routledge, 2014); and “Repurposing the High Line: Aesthetic Experience and Contradiction in West Chelsea” in City, Culture and Society (2017).
