Equity Video Project

Equity Video Project Introduction

In Fall 2020, the College began a reflective process focused on heightening our understanding of student outcomes and disparities across racial and gender groups. As Queensborough delved into our data and inquiry about the different experiences students were having, the need to define equity was evident. The Queensborough Equity Video Project arose from this work. The Equity Video Project is a five-part series designed to engage the Queensborough community in a conversation about equity.

Amaris Matos, Assistant Vice President for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, introduces the series in this inaugural video.

Video 1: Queensborough Defines Equity

Queensborough asked our community to help us define equity in the first video of the series.

Video 2: Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Curricula

In spring 2021, the Office of Academic Affairs appointed Dr. Kerri-Ann Smith Queensborough's inaugural Faculty Fellow for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. A few weeks after the start of her tenure, Dr. Smith sits down with former Provost Timothy Lynch to discuss how Culturally Responsive Pedagogy can positively impact the academic experience Queensborough provides its students.

Video 3: OAA Equity Initiatives

During the spring 2021 semester, Queensborough began operationalizing its equity commitment. In the following conversation, OAA leadership discusses five key initiatives the division implemented to advance equity.

Video 4: The Equity Institute at Queensborough

In Fall 2021, a team of twenty Queensborough colleagues began the Equity Institute, an eight-week learning experience designed by the University of Southern California's (USC) Race and Equity Center. Each week our colleagues attend two-hour virtual modules led by faculty from USC's national network of highly regarded scholars. In between sessions, participants meet in groups of five to discuss how their learning applies to Queensborough. At the end of the eight weeks, each group will develop an action plan to advance equity in one of four opportunity areas. We invite you to learn more about the Equity Institute in the video below.
