Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m.

  • Welcome new committee members Miguel and Patrick. We will miss Barbara and Cheryl.
  • Introductions of all members.
  • Approval of minutes from last meeting.
  • Election of chair and secretary. Sujun (chair) and Rondi (secretary) are the only candidates, so both are elected unanimously.
  • Request from Committee on Environment, Quality of Life, and Disability issues (EQLD) to change their name. This request was suggested to the EQLD committee by the Bylaws Committee after our last meeting to replace the word “disability” with “accessibility”. We also realize the name would work better without the word “issues” in it. Sujun will get back to them about dropping the word “issues” from their name.
  • Update on CEWD bylaw changes we have discussed in previous meetings. Sujun created a report and submitted it to the senate. He was informed it will be voted on in Fall 2024.
  • Update on creating a standardized Bylaws template for the other committees to use when proposing changes. We now have a template and a model for how changes should be shown based on a submission from EQLD. There was much discussion about how to improve the current form including taking the lead from the forms used by the curriculum committee. For example, include the submission date so we can track revisions and progress. Patrick will share some examples from the curriculum committee with Sujun and Miguel. Miguel will take a lead on updating the form further. This will be a form we can post on the website and can be downloaded. It needs to be setup through IT.
  • Thinking ahead to the new academic year, the steering committee is pushing committees to meet in person. Maybe we can do a mix of in-person and online, with perhaps one in-person per semester, say October 2024. We will need to find a meeting room.
  • Meeting adjourned 1:00 PM

Respectfully submitted by:

Rondi Davies
