The Academic Senate Committee on Awards and Scholarships met on May 17, 2024, 10:00 AM

Committee Members in Attendance:

Timothy Keogh, Ryan Brannan, Keba Sylla, Carrie Blank, Christine Pagano & Veronica Luka

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM

Meeting began with the Chairman Timothy Keogh & the Secretary Ryan Brannan making sure that everyone in the committee was satisfied with the meeting minutes from our last awards & scholarships meeting, which was held on 12/13/23. All was agreed upon.

Discussed the Merit Scholarship

As a group, we discussed each individual student candidate by using the rubric that was provided to us. We were all able to come to an agreement on which of these student’s whom applied were going to be awarded this year’s Merit Scholarship.

Every student whom applied was voted either a yes or a no. Although, there were also some student candidates, whom we voted, a yes pending, their GPA, credits, or spring semester registration. Our goal for this scholarship was to try and give it to as many students as possible.

Discussed the Special Awards

First, we discussed The Incentive Award for Evening students. We decided to give this award to the only student whom was nominated for it.

Next we discussed The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award, The Incentive Award for Day Students, The John F. Kennedy Award & the Ray Ricketts Memorial Award.

After a long discussion and small debate we were able to agree upon a winner for each of these awards. Some students were nominated for more than one award. As a committee, it was decided upon, in the past, that we were not going to give out multiple awards to just one student.

Elections

As a group, we discussed which group member’s term was coming to an end and who still has more time to serve on this awards & scholarships committee. Since Ryan Brannan and Tim Keogh still have one more year to serve, we all agreed that they will both keep their roles as Secretary and Chairman. This will also give other committee members & new committee members some time to decide if they would like to take on these roles in the future.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be on September 25th at 12:00pm.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by:

Ryan Brannan
