The Academic Senate Committee on Committee on Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness met on 12/4/24, 12:15PM, S-222


Committee Members in Attendance:

Present: Susana Pinheiro, Elizabeth Nercessian, Alisa Cercone, Fei Ye, Neeraj Mehta, Ian Beckford

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:15PM

  1. Minutes- from the October 9, 2024, meeting were approved with a correction to Fei Ye’s name under attendance.

Note- The committee did not meet on November 13, 2024, because we did not have a quorum.

    Agenda- The meeting agenda is approved

  1. Presentations of the assessment of the non-teaching department reports
  • Health Services-

  • ASAP-Financial Services
  1. Discuss scheduling and procedure for review of teaching departments and program
  2. Discussion and feedback on the General Education Assessment report
  • Susana mentioned that some students are not placed properly in courses which affects results
  • Some courses that were SI sections were cancelled this semester which could affect assessment this semester
  • Stefan offered that there is a funding issue.
  • Ian asked how the courses are labeled- sections are identified as “supplemental instruction” through the registrar and/or CUNY First
  • Ian will contact Michael Pullin for data
  • Stefan- need to have the proper tutors to assist with the scientific and quantitative reasoning issues
  • COVID could have affected student performance as hands-on labs were not happening
  • Stefan- budget is unknown for tutors, it is time consuming to become a tutor as well expensive.
  • Stefan- the success of SI seems to be tied to the MetroCard they get for showing up to tutoring 60% of the time for the course.

Susana requested more people to be on the committee after Kate Wong and Matthew Lau resigned.

Neeraj asked if we could meet at another time or online.

We spoke about Doodles to get attendance for meetings and send invites via the calendar.

Stefan relayed a message from Artie indicating his concern about next steps with the reports- should it go to the Senate?
