Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:00pm

  1. Minutes from 7/18/24 meeting were approved unanimously prior to this meeting, over email.
  2. The meeting was called to order at 11:00am.
  3. Addendum needs to be moved to the correct place on the Admissions Committee website, pending training on using Cascade from the steering committee.
  4. As a follow up to Jannette's inquiry about course load and GPA requirements for readmitted students after their first semester, Registrar followed up with Aine. Students will be on academic probation upon their return to QCC once approved to return by the Admissions Committee process. Students must clear 2.0 for the first semester they come back after dismissal. If their GPA is under a 2.0 for the semester, they may be at risk of dismissal again. If they clear the 2.0 GPA for the semester, they can take over 6 credits the following semester. Once they achieve good academic standing, the student may be released from academic probation.
  5. We discussed ways to inform students about the Academic Fresh Start program, so that they can come back in two years with a clean record. Jannette will draft a letter to the Registrar from the committee to make a formal recommendation that we suggest they advertise the Fresh Start program upon dismissal. The committee will review and endorse as a whole once approved.
  6. The Annual Report was discussed. All committee members have approved the annual report via email, and Jannette posted it to the committee webpage, but when she checked, it wasn't published correctly.  This will be looked into.
  7. Jankee will request Elpha to modify the website to (1) change the email address that’s there to application@qcc.cuny.edu, (2) add a bullet that states that students returning will most likely be limited to take six credits, and (3) fix the typo in the bullet for “Fee” to add an “r” to the word “returning.”
  8. Jankee is investigating to see if we can get the same functionality from Excel as we can from Google Docs, by which we can use columns to enter votes for each member. The committee agrees this is an efficient way to vote. If we cannot add drop down voting options to Excel, Kristen will create an alternate template in Excel.
  9. Applications for readmission were reviewed.
  10. Kristen will email the committee a scheduling poll when Jankee has applications for the committee to review.
