The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on September 10, 2024 at 1:00PM - RFK207 and Zoom


Committee Members in Attendance:

Present: Arthur Abramov (2025), Zeynep Akcay (2027), Rezan Akpinar (2026, Chair), William Duque (2027), Chukwudi Ikwueze (2027), Deborah Karlin (2026, Vice-Chair), Kevin Kolack (2025, Secretary & CoC liaison)

Not present: Melissa Dennihy- teaching (2026), Danny Mangra- teaching (2025)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:05PM

  1. Attendance
  2. Review Committee Meeting Minutes May 7th, 2024 approved with attendance correction
  3. Welcome to the new President’s liaison, Dr. Linda Bastone, Dean of Faculty (OAA)
    Akpinar explained the Committee’s charges to the new members.
    New member Duque (absent in May) introduced himself and told Committee that there will be a multi-day professional development for advisers, and asked if depts would like to present. He will be sending invites.
  4. Student/faculty survey on student evaluation forms – finalization
    There was some discussion concerning the feedback received, and whether there would be changes to the eval, survey, notifications about the eval period, etc. based on it. There was further discussion about students who withdraw not having access to eval, as well as students who don’t attend (WU) having access.
  5. Workshop – CETL- Research and Publication Virtual Workshop Series
    Cosponsoring upcoming CETL workshops (research and publication series Fridays at 11, starting 9/20). Meg is looking for someone to present at the final one on assessment/survey design. Committee members who can join, please do.
    We should sponsor our own. Need ideas.
  6. Meeting time – reevaluation of our meeting time
    Akpinar will send a poll. Need to move back in person if at all possible.
