Scholarship
Myself Third: Spirit of New York Scholarship
The Myself Third Scholarship was established in 2002 to pay tribute to the idealism and spirit of 9/11 rescue workers and to honor the extraordinary civic involvement of high school graduates whose community service inspires pride and a sense of solidarity and citizenship.
How much is it?
The program awards two $5,000 one-time grants to graduating seniors who are planning to attend one of the colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). The scholarship is to be used to help defray the costs of matriculation and other school-related expenses.
Eligibility
The scholarship competition is open to high school seniors who are enrolled or have completed at least one College Now class or workshop.
Application
Teachers from each of the high schools participating in the College Now program may nominate graduating seniors. The teachers will guide those students through the application process. Students must submit a comprehensive application that includes:
- a teacher recommendation
- a transcript of grades
- description of work, volunteer and extracurricular experiences, and
- an essay in which they define their understanding of civic responsibility and describe a personal experience that illustrates their commitment to service.
