HaEun Kim-'17

HaEun Kim came to the United States from Korea when she was in 6th grade. She is the middle child of 3 girls and lives in Flushing with her family. She is pursuing an Associate's Degree in Math and Science with a concentration in Chemistry.

Initially HaEun visited the Office of Career Services seeking information on obtaining a job and met with Ms. Susanne Grossman. Ms. Grossman introduced her to Dr. Svoronos who then introduced her to Dr. Shin and the research program here. She was given the opportunity to join the research program which led to her presenting her research topic to over 1,000 students and chemists at the American Chemical Society national event.

In addition to working with Career Services on job opportunities, Ms. Grossman helped Ha Eun tailor her resume to reflect all her accomplishments in the field of chemistry which she wouldn't have been able to do without specific guidance. Her relationship with Ms. Grossman also opened up volunteer opportunities for her at the QCC Internship Forum as well as working with Career Services as a work study student.

HaEun is grateful for all the opportunities that QCC has presented her. She encourages others to take advantage of all that QCC has to offer. She has had incredible professors who have played a major role in helping her achieve her goals. In addition, she has been a member of the Korean Student Associate Club for the last 2 years, as both vice president and president. Clubs offer students an opportunity to connect with others and she highly recommends joining a club to all students. All of these positive experiences and resources have helped her continued success with her studies. She plans on continuing her education and possibly pursuing a career in medicine where she can help others.
