OER Resources and Helpful Links

Where can I find OER material?  

OER can be found by searching through different repositories. Some of the more commonly used OER repositories are as follows (each name is a link to the specific repository):  

• CommonSpaces is structured in Communities (Administrator adds a member) and Projects (OER cataloguing projects) among other kinds of projects; 
• HippoCampus Has free educational resources. Thousands of free videos in 13 subject areas; 
• Internet Archive’s OER library Has hundreds of free courses, video lectures, and supplemental materials. Many of these lectures are available for download; 
• Mason OER Metafinder Helps you find Open Educational Resources with real-time federated search across 22 different sources of open educational materials; 
• MERLOT Provides access to curated online learning and support materials and content creation tools; 
• OASIS A search tool that aims to make the discovery of open content easier; Searches 115 different sources and contains 440,380 records; 
• OER Commons Has tens of thousands of open resources on OER commons are free with extensive library and powerful findability; 
• Open Washington This website is dedicated to providing easy pathways for faculty to learn, find, use and apply OER; 
• Skills Commons Has over 700 institutions contributing to the repository, the open library of materials, educational services and resources; 
• Teaching Commons brings together high-quality open educational resources from leading colleges and universities; 
• WikiEducator A dynamic, evolving and exciting community intended for the collaborative, who believe passionately that learning materials should be free and open to all; 
• Wisc-Online A repository of high-quality educational learning materials free to learners and educators anywhere on the globe; 

Where can I publish my OER?  

The most commonly used publishing platforms used in this program are as follows (each name is a link to the specific publishing site):  

• WordPress 42% of the web is built on WordPress. Instantly transform the look and feel of your OER page/site with beautifully crafted themes and one-click layouts. (Hosted by ITS at Brooklyn College); 
• Manifold Digital Publishing first-class accessibility for OER libraries. Set up projects, roles and permissions for faculty and students. (Hosted by CUNY);  
• CUNYAcademicCommonsWordPress With WordPress a platform originally designed around blogging that has now evolved with functionality as a learning management system. (Managed by CUNY); 
• OpenLab Commons in a Box Free open-source software that provides an infrastructure that encourages discussion, collaboration, and sharing. Creating an online space, or digital commons for your community. (CBOX). 
• Vocat How do we use video to help students learn to speak and present more clearly? by  creating, uploading and evaluating media content projects. (Developed by a team at Baruch College);  
• Omeka For institutions managing a sharable resource pool across multiple sites or for individual projects and educators creating media-rich online exhibits. (Developed at George Mason);  
• LibGuides A platform for easily creating & sharing guides about different topics, subject areas, courses, services, collections, etc. (Developed by Springshare); 
• Scalar A free, open source authoring and publishing platform that’s designed to make it easy for authors to write long-form, born-digital scholarship online  (Hosted by USC);  
• OER Commons The tens of thousands of open resources on OER commons are free with extensive library and powerful findability. (Created by ISKME);
