Margot Diekmann Edlin, Ed.D., is a 1985 graduate of Hofstra University. After receiving a B.A. in English literature, she worked as a radio announcer and copy editor for the American Institute of Physics. She holds two M.A. degrees, in English literature and secondary education, from Adelphi University, where she taught as an adjunct in the English Department from 1990 through 1994 and in the School of Education from 1999 through 2000. She has also held adjunct positions at Nassau Community College and Polytechnic University. In 1996, she accepted a position as an English teacher in the Glen Cove City School District. She taught in both the middle school and high school and has experience teaching all grades 7 through 12.
Dr. Edlin joined the staff of the Academic Literacy Department at Queensborough Community College as an instructor in 2003 and has taught developmental reading and writing courses, as well as a learning community pairing developmental reading with introductory psychology. She was re-appointed to assistant professor in 2007 when she was awarded an Ed.D., in curriculum and teaching from Teachers College – Columbia University. In the fall of 2010, she joined the Office of Academic Affairs as a faculty fellow. She was appointed Interim Assistant Dean in spring 2015. Her responsibilities include the coordination of undergraduate education, summer immersion, and research on remediation. She is also a PI on several grant projects.
Dr. Edlin was honored with the Hofstra University George M. Estabrook Distinguished Alumni award for her work with the Hofstra Radio Alumni Association, the Jeffrey Krauss Memorial Scholarship Committee, and the Hofstra University Alumni Executive Council. She has served as a parent advocate for children with special needs in her local school district and is an aquatics coach for Special Olympics.
