Queensborough Community College Announces Ribbon Cutting for The PRIDE Center

Published: March 20, 2025

Bayside, NY – Queensborough Community College is proud to announce the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of The PRIDE Center, an inclusive space dedicated to fostering a caring community where every student feels they belong. As an institution, we are committed to ensuring our students never question their place here, and The PRIDE Center is a key part of that mission. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at 10:00 am.

“We want our students to know they can be their full, authentic selves and feel welcome on our campus, “said Queensborough Community College President Christine Mangino (she/her/ hers). “We offer numerous supports at the College to ensure our students feel at ease learning in our community, and The PRIDE Center is an example of that.”

The center will foster a sense of belonging for students while promoting wellness and educating them on how to navigate available resources. As a full-service resource space, The PRIDE Center celebrates LGBTQIA+ history and culture, empowering students to become self-advocates throughout their academic journey at Queensborough, in their pursuit of further education, and on their path toward thriving careers and fulfilling lives.

"My vision for co-creating the PRIDE Center with the Queensborough community is to curate a space where students can feel safe and empowered in who they are,” said Lamar Greene (they/them/theirs), PRIDE Center Coordinator. “The 'PRIDE' in our Center's name is a reminder to give yourself permission to live out loud in your boldest truth and authenticity. I aim for our space to exemplify Queensborough's culture of care values while equipping our students to lead thriving academic journeys, careers, and lives."

The PRIDE Center is dedicated to uplifting and educating the Queensborough campus on allyship and intersectionality. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate in events, programs, and activities hosted by Queensborough’s PRIDE Center regardless of sexual orientation, biological sex, gender identity or expression.

Join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this inspiring new resource. All students, faculty, and community members are all invited to attend.
