Course Description in college catalog:

A continuation of MUS-124. Sight singing and dictation of melodies with limited chromaticism, two-part rhythms and diatonic harmonic dication

Course-specific student learning outcomes:

1. Accurately notate musical examples with up to three voices, in all keys.

2. Accurately sing, aurally identify, and notate rhythms from whole notes and whole rests through sixteenth notes and sixteenth rests, including ties and syncopations.

3. Accurately sing, aurally identify, and notate all ascending and descending intervals.

4. Accurately sing diatonic melodies in all major and minor keys.

5. Aurally identify various uses of the 6/4 chord.

6. Aurally identify varying triads and seventh chords, and their inversions.

Program-specific outcomes

Prepare students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution of higher learning to pursue a career in music by providing a solid foundation in the areas of musicianship and performance.

Provide the general college students with the opportunities to study music in a variety of classes that promotes intellectual inquiry, global awareness and lifelong active learning.

1. Contribution to atmosphere of respect conducive to learning, activeparticipation, completion of weekly homework, bringing all materials daily,

on-time attendance* — 5 points weekly 30%

2. Four sight singing Quizzes — 5 points each 25%

3. Four listening Quizzes — 5 points each 25%

4. Written Final Exam**— 10%

5. Outside practice time, one hour a week practice of exercises given in class.
