The QCC PRIDE Center

About the QCC PRIDE Center

The Queensborough PRIDE Center is dedicated to increasing a sense of belonging on campus for LGBTQIA+ members of the QCC community. Our focus is on equipping students with the knowledge and tools to overcome many of the barriers that LGBTQIA+ students face in graduating college. The PRIDE Center is a full-service resource space that celebrates Queer and Trans history and culture, while preparing students to be self-advocates as they navigate their academic journey at QCC, pursue further education, and lead thriving careers and lives. Through our intentional efforts, we aim to foster community, promote wellness, and educate students on how to identify and use the resources available to them. We also uplift allies and educate the QCC campus on allyship and intersectionality. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate in events, programs, and activities hosted by QCC’s PRIDE Center regardless of sexual orientation, biological sex, gender identity or expression.

Our Mission, Vision, Values

Mission

The mission of The PRIDE Center at QCC is to curate a nurturing environment that celebrates and uplifts the lives of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff. The PRIDE Center aligns with QCC’s larger culture of care by educating the campus about allyship, inclusion, and intersectionality.

Vision

Through intentional programs, services, and resource navigation, The PRIDE Center at QCC aspires to be a nationally recognized LGBTQIA+ cultural hub that has a profound impact on the campus community, CUNY campuses, and organizations in New York City and beyond.

Values

  • Social Justice: The PRIDE Center values equity, LGBTQIA+ liberation, and anti-racism by providing a space to advocate for collective needs and equipping people with the tools to be self-advocates.

  • Intersectionality & Belonging: The PRIDE Center recognizes that the LGBTQIA+ community is not monolithic and creates space for people to be their whole selves and for niche lived experiences to be seen, validated, and celebrated.

  • Collaboration: The PRIDE Center connects with campus partners to expand its impact and pool together resources to support the community.

  • Adaptability: The PRIDE Center creatively assesses the needs of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, and allies to offer tailored programs and services.

  • Transparency: The PRIDE Center transparently communicates about what it can provide and what it needs to be a safe and sustainable space.
