Opening - The second meeting of fall 2024 CUNY/Queensborough Community College Committee on Computer Resources was called to order on time on 12:04 PM November 18, 2024.

Approve Previous Meeting Minutes

  • October 16, 2024 meeting minutes were approved with minor modifications.

Chair’s Report on Tech Fee Meeting

  • Attendance: Ron Van Cleef and Ted attended the Tech Fee Committee meeting on October 29, 2024.
  • Updates Reported:
    1. Budget allocation for the Tech Fee.
    2. Potential pay increase for interns.
    3. Plans to revise the structure and workflow of the Tech Fee Committee, including budget review processes.
  • Additional updates will be provided after the next Tech Fee Committee meeting.

Subcommittee 1: Student Survey & Related Article

  • Members: Ron Van Cleef, Venessa Singhroy, Zhou Zhou
  • Progress:
  1. The subcommittee drafted a student survey, which was reviewed by the full committee. Several modifications were suggested.
  2. Next Steps: Zhou will collaborate with Venessa to revise the survey based on the committee’s feedback.

Subcommittee 3: Academic Affairs Information on Brightspace Issues & Related Article

  • Members: Sanjay Koul, James Timbilla
  • No significant updates reported at this meeting.
  • Anuradha shared her experience with BrS and expressed concern about the need for additional technical training and support to enhance her proficiency with the platform.

Subcommittee 4: QCC Laptop Availability & Related Article

  • Member: Jonggu Moon
  • Ted shared his insights on the topic:
    1. The laptop loaning program was discontinued after the pandemic.
    2. During the pandemic, 1,300 devices were purchased across the CUNY system for emergency student use.
  • Next Steps: The committee will further discuss the objectives and direction of this subcommittee in future meetings.

Meeting Schedule 

  • The previously scheduled fall 2024 meeting times conflict with the teaching assignments of at least two committee members. Anuradha volunteered to create Doodle polls to find alternative meeting times. The committee agreed to explore late afternoon or evening Zoom meetings on Mondays.
