Academic Development / Elective Academic Programs Committee - template letter for Chairs

Subject: Request to Share Faculty Evaluation Information with Your Department

Dear Department Chairs,

As we approach the end of the Spring 2025 semester, we kindly ask for your assistance in promoting student participation in faculty evaluations by sharing the following information with your faculty.

Student evaluations provide essential feedback that supports continuous improvement in teaching and contributes to faculty development efforts across the College.

The student evaluation period runs from Thursday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Please encourage your faculty to share the following key points with their students:

  • Evaluations are conducted online.
  • Students receive a link via email or text, which takes them to a single webpage with all of their course evaluations.
  • The evaluation page can be saved and completed at a later time before final submission.
  • Evaluations are anonymous and will not be accessible to faculty until after final grades are submitted.
  • Feedback is reviewed by faculty and administrative committees to guide improvements in teaching and curriculum.

To support your faculty in this effort, we’ve provided two sample messages below. These can be posted in Brightspace or emailed directly to students. Additionally, if feasible, we ask faculty to consider setting aside 5 minutes of class time to allow students to complete the evaluations.

Thank you for helping to promote this important initiative.

For any questions regarding the evaluation process, please contact the Office of Academic Affairs at officeofacademicaffairs@qcc.cuny.edu.

Sincerely,

Rezan Akpinar, Chair
On behalf of the Academic Development Committee
