We are please to announce the 2023 Chinese Podcast Contest for teaching Chinese as a foreign/second language teachers! This exciting competition is open to all K-16 Chinese teachers who are interested in creating a podcast that will help Chinese language learners improve their language skiills.
In an effort to supporting Chinese language teachers and learners in the U.S., the Columbia University National Resources Center and Queensborough Community College, CUNY soliciting Mandarin podcasts from Chinese teachers designed for Chinese Language learners at different proficiency levels.
The contestants may choose any topic of their preferences to create the podcasts, such as Chinese customs/cultures, holidays or idioms, or everyday life topic. The podcast should be between three to five minutes in length, and an accompanying transcript of the podcast is required along with the submission. The contestants will need to specify that the podcasts are at the novice, intermediate or advanced language proficiency level according to the ACTFL standard.
All pre-service and in-service Chinese teachers, including teachers from private language schools, from grade K through college, are welcome to submit podcasts.
The judging process will be based on several criteria, including creativity, clarity, content and production quality. The judging criteria will be available soon on our webpage. The top three contestants at each level will receive cash prizes and their podcast episodes will be featured on the contest’s website and Google Podcasts.

由哥伦比亚大学、皇后社区学院协办的 “2023中文podcast大赛”即日起开启报名,在此我们诚邀各位老师参加本次比赛,我们希望以此活动鼓励中文教学的老师创建podcast以帮助不同水平的中文学习者提高中文技能。
参赛者可以选择任何自己喜欢的主题Podcast,例如习俗/文化、节日或成语,或日常生活主题。Podcast 长度应介于三到五分钟,提交时需附带 Podcast 的文本。本次活动将根据ACTFL听力标准的初学者、中级或高级语言能力级别分为三组。
欢迎所有在职或准备从事华语教学的中文老师,包括来自私立语言学校的老师,从幼儿园到大学的各级教师,参加比赛。
评选过程将基于多个标准,包括创意、清晰度、内容和制作质量。每个级别的前三名参赛者将获得奖金,并且获奖的 Podcast 也将在比赛网站和Google Podcasts上展示。

Contest Details
Eligibility
- Contestant must be either pre-service teachers currently registered in language education or related programs in a tertiary educational institution in the U.S. or in-service teacher at a public or private K-16 school in the United States during the 2022 – 2023school year.
- Entries may be submitted by an individual or a group, but only one prize will be awarded to the entry.
Dates
Submission deadline: June 10, 2023, 11:59 PM EST
Winners announced: Late June, 2023
Winners will be notified by email.

- Novice level: Best podcast $250, Runner-up $200, Honorable Mention $150
- Intermediate level: Best podcast $250, Runner-up $200, Honorable Mention $150
- Advanced level: Best podcast $250, Runner-up $200, Honorable Mention $150
Submission Guidelines
Contestants will submit podcasts by filling out an online application. Podcasts must be submitted as a Google Doc link or Dropbox link.
Please use the following texts in the beginning of your title of the podcast: “2023 Podcast for Chinese Learners Contest, co-sponsored by Columbia University National Resource Center and Queensborough Community College”.
Length Requirements:
- Novice level: 3 minutes
- Intermediate level: 3-5 minutes
- Advanced level: 5 minutes
One submission per individual or group. A group submission needs to have one point of contact.
