About the Computer Science A.S. Online Degree Program
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Queensborough Community College (QCC) provides a fully online Computer Science degree program. Tailored for working adults returning to college, the program is open to all students.
The degree program's academic requirements are the same as those for the traditional A.S. in Computer Science. The key distinction is that all courses are delivered in a fully online, asynchronous format, allowing students to study from home without attending live online lectures.
Requirements
Students in the online program must:
-
Have a reliable computer and internet access. Students are responsible for purchasing and maintaining a computer and internet access. Technical assistance with campus software is available from the college.
-
Be willing and able to work independently on the courses. Online courses provide students with a lot of freedom, but they also require students to keep up with the work. Online courses are not “easier” and require at least the same amount of work as traditional, in person courses.
-
Complete a “Getting Ready for Online Learning” workshop before they start taking online courses in the program. Details on this fully online workshop will be provided to students when they enroll in the program. Get familiar with online courses by completing an Introduction to Brightspace course offered by the Office of Educational Technologies.

Apply to the Program
Students can enroll now in the online Computer Science program in several ways:
-
New Queensborough students can choose Computer Science AS - Online Program in the CUNY Freshman Application or can choose a major degree program upon admission. Students should choose Computer Science AS - Online Program at that time.
-
Current Queensborough students can switch their major degree program to Computer Science online by speaking with their Academy Adviser (ASAP or CD students should contact their program adviser) or either of the Program Directors, Professor Esma Yildrim or Professor Daniel Garbin. Current students must not have earned more than 30 college credits and must be in good academic standing to be admitted to the program.
