Over her more than 20+ years of teaching experience, Dr. Lall-Ramnarine, a tenured full professor in the Chemistry department, has been a strong advocate for students, particularly those underrepresented in scientific fields, mentoring dozens of them in undergraduate research at QCC, bringing students to research labs through internships, and the Visiting Faculty Program (VFP) at Brookhaven National Lab (BNL), as well as finding them open positions to advance their career.  She initiated Queensborough's student and faculty participation as the first community college in the NY ACS annual National Chemistry Week celebration.

Dr. Lall-Ramnarine has maintained a 23-year research scientist collaborator appointment at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the chemistry division since 2001 and has conducted research there every summer with her students, four of whom have been hired as Associate employees over the past several years. Two are now full-time employees.

“Community colleges are all about giving students opportunities. I have used my teaching research and service to mentor, challenge, and inspire QCC’s students to compete with peers from the best educational institutions in the nation," said Sharon Lall-Ramnarine. When I look back on my career, it’s not my publications, grants, or awards that stand out, it is the students I have had the opportunity to mentor in research. They have really enriched my life.”
