Step-by-Step Guide for International Students

Pre-Admission:

Apply to Queensborough Community College

N.B. Students not educated in English must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting English language proficiency exam scores from TOEFL or IELTS

ONCE YOU ARE ACCEPTED INTO QUEENSBOROUGH:

Overseas students who do not have an I-20:

 Submit the following documentation

_________ Queensborough acceptance letter

_________ Application for Form I-20     (Model I-20 application)

Sponsor Financial Documentation

 ________  Bank statement showing sponsor's name, account activity for last three months showing regular deposits, and current balance of at least $34,239 USD dated within 3 months of program start date; certificates of deposit (CDs) are acceptable provided that the CD maturity date occurs before the semester start date.

_________  Current paystub AND paystubs for last three months. If sponsor is self-employed, we require his/her certificate of ownership and proof of company profits and losses.

_________ Most recent tax return

NOTE: If a sponsor wishes to provide room and board, sponsor must provide proof of residence at the address listed in the affidavit of support (e.g., renter's agreement, lease, mortgage). The sponsor must be the lessor/homeowner and his/her estimated annual expenses must be no less than $16,695 USD. 

 If self-sponsored, student must provide a bank statement in their name with a current available balance of at least $102,717 USD to cover the estimated cost of their expenses for the duration of the I-20 (three years). Student may also have to provide further evidence of funding as determined on a case-by-case basis.

 _________ Once I-20 is approved, student must arrange for the shipment of the I-20 and supporting documents, pay the I-901 SEVIS fee, and then apply for an F-1 visa at the U.S. Consulate in their home country. Students are advised to learn more about the visa interview process and visa denials prior to their appointment. 

N.B. Students who plan to pay their I-901 via Western Union MUST complete the I-901 online and receive a unique coupon number, a requirement to submit payment via Western Union. 

 Student who have a current and valid I-20:

 In addition to the documentation listed above, submit:

________    Transfer Enrollment Status Form completed by the former school DSO

________    All previous I-20 (copy)

________    Visa (copy)

________    I-94 (copy)

________    ID page of passport (copy)

N.B. Transfer students must submit complete I-20 application no later than 15 days after the semester start date. Students with incomplete applications will have their SEVIS records terminated and they must then apply for reinstatement.

 UPON ENTERING THE U.S.

Print out your I-94 record and submit to our office
N.B.: Overseas students may not enter the United States more than thirty (30) days prior to the start of their first semester.

AFTER ARRIVING IN THE U.S.

_________   Take the CUNY Assessment Tests (Contact our office to schedule a test date).
                  N.B.: Failure to take the placement exams will limit class selection and may prevent registration for degree-relevant classes.

_________   Submit immunization records to Health Services

_________    After receiving placement test results, schedule academic advisement and course registration appointment with Jeff Ballerini, Academic Adviser (jballerini@qcc.cuny.edu)
