Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

and The QCC Adult Literacy Program

In 2012, the Department of Homeland Security implemented a program which enables undocumented youth to gain legal work authorization, possess driver’s licenses and be protected from deportation, among other benefits. Informally known as DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is specifically designed for individuals who came to the United States under the age of 16 and were under the age of 31 as of June 2012. One of the requirements to qualify for DACA is that an individual must be enrolled in an educational class or have obtained his/her GED/HSE or High School diploma.

The QCC Adult Literacy program is offering free ESL literacy classes to individuals who may qualify for DACA or are in the process of obtaining DACA status. In addition, the program is referring individuals to other literacy, career and continuing education programs and free legal counseling.
