The increase in longevity and recent changes in the healthcare system have created an increased need for educated and skilled Nursing Assistants. This program gives students an excellent opportunity to acquire the necessary occupational skills required for CNAs. The CNA profession is ideal for people seeking flexible hours working in nursing homes, hospitals, a doctor’s office, and healthcare facilities. The program includes anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of patient care, and clinical experience in a residential healthcare facility. Screen reader support enabled.

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED/HSE and US Citizenship or Legal Working Permits. This is a 120-hour course that includes 78 online hours, 12 clinical on-site hours, plus a 30-hour externship at a nursing home.

EMT Certification

This course covers all techniques and operational aspects of an EMT. Demonstration, practice, and clinical observation are integrated with free online FEMA classes.

Emergency Room Technician

An ER Tech provides technical support to MDs and RNs to optimize patient care by providing Phlebotomy and IV stats; performing 12-lead EKGs; transporting patients to other departments; tending to wound care; obtaining lab specimens; documenting all care/procedures provided, and performing other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements: Co-requisite is CPR (Basic Cardiac Life Support sanctioned by the AHA) and HS diploma or equivalent.

Patient Care Technician

The average Patient Care Technician (PCT) salary in New York, NY is $42,297 and the salary range typically falls between $36,852 and $47,295. The BLS reports that PCTs can expect a growth in demand of 17% from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average for most other professions.

Patient Care Technicians are multi-disciplinary technical workers trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled functions. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Clinics, Labs and Doctors’ Offices all employ Patient Care Technicians. The disciplines included in the program at Queensborough Community College include six core competencies in CPR (AHX100), Standard First Aid (AHX183), EKG (AHX170), Phlebotomy (AHX171), Medical Terminology for Allied Health Programs (AHX-179), and Certified Nursing Assistant (NUX200).

After completing the program students can take the certification exam from the NHA and become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).

EKG Technician

The objective of the CMAA program is to prepare students to function in an administrative /clerical capacity in the healthcare industry.  This program covers background information on the profession and the industry.  It also covers legal and ethical issues, medical terminology, basic health insurance, practice management and an introduction to medical coding.  The focus of this course is the day-to-day operation of the medical office: telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, use of technology in the medical office, medical records management, and management of practice finances.  This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that a student can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in healthcare.  Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be prepared to sit for the (NHA) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) examination.

Certified Hemodialysis Technician
