Music Theory is a course on musical notation, form, rhythm, pitch, harmony. Students will discuss music literacy, and analyze performed music through audio/video resources, writings, and articles.

Fern Smith

Fern R Smith, a member of the faculty of QCC Continuing Education Department, provides instruction and leadership that continues to raise the level of expectations for learning to play the  guitar, especially for group guitar. By bridging the gap between playing simple chords to laying standard music literature, Ms. Smith has inspired a new breed of musicians

Smith - is a classical guitarist. She is a lifelong learner and instructor of the guitar. She studied with Dr. Rene Gonzalez, now retired, head of the Classical Guitar Program at the University of Miami, Florida. Dr. Gonzalez was the protege of Juan Mecadal.

Smith is a graduate of Laguardia Fiorelli High School of the Performing Arts. She also attended the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.

Yoga - Flow and Restore

This class is for everyone. From beginners to experienced Yogi's.

Flow and Restore plus Core. Focus is on Abs. and Core. We will warm up, practice breathing, stretching, do some standing poses. Work on balance, steadiness, and flexibility, in a safe and fun way. Using props(yoga strap and 2 yoga blocks) one will learn how to incorporate these into the practice.

Come, relax, recharge, feel invigorated and uplifted.

PROPS NEEDED - A Yoga mat, 2 yoga blocks and a yoga strap.

Playwriting Workshop

In this workshop, through engaging playwritingexercises, writers will explore how breaking away from traditional forms can ignite their imagination, allowing them to embrace the chaos of a first draft as a valuable part of the creative process rather than something to discard. This workshop is designed to encourage clarity in storytelling while helping participants unearth new play ideas from the depths of their subconscious.

The workshop is open to all skill levels

Students can bring paper and pen or a laptop. Whatever will help them write.

Pickleball Instruction, Lesson and Practice

Official Pickleball rules and scoring will be discussed. Pickleball advanced techniques and strategies will be introduced. Proper athletic clothing and footwear(sneakers) is required.

***Pickleballs will be supplied, paddles can be supplied, although it is suggested that Participants bring their own paddles***

Pickleball Doubles - Social Play

All Pickleball levels (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) are welcome to register. Proper athletic clothing and footwear(sneakers) is required.

Pickleball Social Play
Pickleball Social Play is an event where people play Pickleball, socialize and learn the game. It is a great way to meet new people and learn the game. Pickleball Social Play can include networking, casual conversations and games.


How Pickleball Social Play Works:


Social Play - Players rotate between courts and players and meet new people.

Open Play - Players of all skill levels play separately (Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced). Players also rotate between courts and players and meet new people.

Oil Pastel Art Class

Oil Pastels are forgiving, easy to blend, and versatile, making them perfect for creating art. This class will explore new possibilities through methods of depicting landscapes, still life, and famous paintings. Students will practice various expressions by mixing oil pastels with other materials gaining the essential drawing skills and experience. Working with pastels offers hands-on, immersive experience that is both meditative and ideal for adults looking for an escape from daily stress.
