Instructions for
completing Test 1 using 'Copy and Paste'. Please
review or print these instructions, then return to the
previous web page to complete the test.
1. Switch from the web browser software to your
word processing software. (e.g., Word or
WordPerfect.)
2. Create or retrieve a five-page text document in
your word processor.
3. Copy the text of the word processed document to
the clipboard.
a. Select the text to be copied. (Windows-users can
use Edit-Select All or Ctrl+A.)
b. Then copy the text to the clipboard using the copy
command. (Windows-users can use Edit-Copy or Ctrl+C.)
4. Next minimize the word processor window, so you
can see the web page again.
5. Open the online assignment form by clicking the
'Test 1: Create an assignment using copy and paste'
link at the bottom of the Test 1 web page.
6. Follow the directions in the assignment form and
paste your document into the appropriate text area.
a. Type your initials in location indicated at the top
of the form.
b. Next, place the cursor in the large white box and
invoke the paste command. (Windows-users can use
Edit-Paste or Ctrl+V.)
7. When the text has appeared in the box, scroll
down to the bottom of the form and click the 'Submit
Assignment' button only once. (Don't click the
'Reset' button unless you want to clear the form and
start all over!)
8. After submitting the form, you will receive a
confirmation screen. Use the link "Click
here" to see your submitted document
posted on the 'Test Your System' page.
a. If you do not receive a confirmation screen within
a minute after clicking the submit button, you may be
experiencing problems with your Internet connection.
Return to the Test Your System page and Refresh/Reload
the page to see if your test posted. You should
contact your ISP to determine why you are not
communicating properly with the SLN web site.
9. Open the posting with your initials. If your
document is blank or you notice changes in your
document's text, go to the document "Please read
this document after completing the two tests."

Please note that when you use the 'Copy and Paste'
method of placing text into the assignment form, all
document format codes are removed.
