Become A Justice Academy Peer Mentor

Justice Academy Peer Mentors are successful students who serve as role models and mentors for students. They work closely with faculty and staff to establish foundations of college success and support students along their Academic Journey.

  • Full-time QCC student
  • Earned fewer than 50 credits
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Available to work at least 10 hours per week between 8:00am – 5:30pm during the fall semester
  • Ability to attend all trainings and staff meetings
  • Willing and available to make occasional visits to various CUNY Community College campuses
  • Help incoming transfer students become successful at QCC
  • Develop and improve professional skills
  • Work with a diverse and supportive team of colleagues
  • Gain access to networking opportunities and recommendation letters
  • Receive priority registration
  • Earn money while working on campus-$11/hour

Justice Academy Peer Mentor Application 2015

Primary Duties:

  • Provides support to students in the CUNY Justice Academy (CJA) and Transfer Seminars (e.g., maintains ongoing communication via phone calls, emails, and meetings)
  • Helps students navigate the college environment and its resources, and assists them as they transition to college life
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other departments and resources, as necessary
  • Represents QCC and the Queensborough Academies that support Justice Academy Students
  • Serves as a positive role model for CUNY Justice Academy at QCC as well as partner campuses
  • Promote college/CJA events and activities
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Additional Duties:

  • Welcomes and provides important information to CJA students transferring to John Jay through phone or email outreach
  • Facilitates workshops on topics related to student success
  • Provides additional one-on-one support to students, as necessary
  • Full-time QCC Student
  • Earned fewer than 50 credits
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA at QCC
  • Available to work 10 hours per week between the hours of 8am-5:30pm for minimum of two hours per shift, beginning in August
  • Ability to attend and actively participate in all trainings and staff meetings
  • Genuine desire to help students
  • Enthusiasm for promoting events and representing QCC
  • Familiarity with QCC and John Jay services and resources
  • Desire to work as a team leader
Starts at $11 per hour
