Biography and Research Information

Van Ells received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and is a native of the Badger State.  Prior to his position at Queensborough, he taught at Mt. Senario College and the University of Wisconsin – Platteville.  Dr. Van Ells also served as Archivist/Historian at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison.  His research specialties include the social history of U.S. military, World War II, and popular culture, and has taught a wide range of courses on American, Asian, and European history. 


Dr. Van Ells is currently conducting a study of the experiences of American soldiers in foreign lands during World War II.  He is also writing a traveler’s guide to U.S.-related World War I historic sites for Interlink Books.  Publication is expected in 2014.
