C.O.P.E – Helping Students Help Themselves


Enhancing Equality

As part of one of the largest public university systems in the country, we recognize that our students come from diverse backgrounds and that all do not share the same economic support systems which assist the student in completing a degree. To remedy this, the College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment (C.O.P.E.) provides a broad range of support services to students receiving public assistance or who meet specific economic guidelines.

Academic Advisement

Through a one-on-one session interacting with the student, our adviser achieves an in-depth understanding of his/her intellectual passions as well as his/her professional aspirations and provides that student with targeted, insightful guidance on course and curriculum selection.   



While government services are undoubtedly vital in helping students, navigating the maze of policies and mandates can present a formidable obstacle. To help overcome this challenge, C.O.P.E. offers



In order to become a recipient of COPE’s services, you must:

*The College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment (COPE) program is funded by and operated in collaboration with the Family Independence Administration of the City of New York Human Resources Administration (HRA).  Services are available to anyone who is a current or former CUNY student or applicant, and who is either receiving public assistance cash benefits (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Safety Net Single Assistance), or who is applying for such benefits, or who receives Food Stamps, or who is a non-custodial parent, or who is a non-matriculated CUNY student.
