Starfish Student Success Communication Network

What is Starfish?

Starfish is Queensborough's Student Success Communication Network. Starfish provides our community the ability for faculty, advisors, learning centers, and other student services to work together to support student success throughout the semester. View progress survey dates.

How Do Professors Use Starfish?

Professors may use Starfish as a part of the administration of the course to send:

Kudos, to acknowledge student success:
-Strong Start
-Keep up the Good Work
-Showing Improvement
-On Track to Finish Strong
Resolve: No action need be taken, besides celebration.

Referral (Learning Centers), to guide students to learning centers for academic support:
-Math Learning Center (MLC)
-Center for Tutoring and Academic Support (CTAS)
Resolve: The student will be contacted by the appropriate learning center to schedule a meeting.

Referral (Support Services), to guide students to student support services:
-Academic Advisement
-Advocacy Resource Center (ARC)
-Military and Veterans Services (MVS)
-College Discovery (CD) Learning Center
-Transfer Resource Center (TRC)
Resolve: The student will be contacted by the appropriate support service to schedule a meeting.
*These referrals are not included on the milestone surveys but can be accessed through your Starfish dashboard, anytime.

Flag, to communicate areas needed for improvement:
-Attendance/Participation
-Technology Challenges
-Academic Concern
-In Danger of Failing
Resolve: An advisor will contact the student to discuss the situation. Once resolved, the advisor will clear the flag. Faculty may also clear the flag should they resolve the situation before the advisor.

Once the professor sends the communication to the Starfish Network, an email is sent to the student's Office 365 Email account with further instruction. It is the responsibility of the student to take the appropriate action recommended in the Starfish communication. Students should contact their professor immediately if they have any questions regarding a Starfish communication they have received.

The communication is also populated on the student's Starfish dashboard. This allows the student's advisor, and appropriate learning centers and support services, to work together as a community, to support student success throughout the semester.
