Welcome to the Queensborough Community College (QCC) Service-Learning Resource Center (SLRC)! This website provides a central location where students, faculty, and community partners can learn about service-learning. Our resources can also help faculty develop and initiate service-learning projects.
Modules are available to introduce students to service-learning and learn about key aspects of the concept, including the benefits of participation and the importance of reflection. These activities help students understand the rationale behind service-learning as a pedagogy and high impact learning strategy.
The SLRC contains a wealth of information targeted to faculty, including links to content-specific websites and calls for conference presentations as well as publication opportunities. For faculty who are new to the pedagogy and are interested in initiating a project, detailed information is provided, such as examples of syllabi and reflection resources. We have also designed a process to help faculty validate their service-learning project.
The website lists the community-based organizations that have collaborated with QCC on service-learning projects. The QCC Service-Learning Team acts as the liaison between faculty and these community partners; the staff can arrange and facilitate initial meetings to discuss a potential collaboration. Faculty interested in partnering with organizations other than those listed should review their ideas with the service-learning staff.
