QCC welcomed spring by cheering for students at its 6th Annual Walk to Aspire on March 20. Walk to Aspire raises money for student scholarships, allowing hardworking, eager students to come to Queensborough and gain the "Edge for Success."
Twenty-one teams comprising students, faculty, staff and alumni raised more than $18,000 in the months before the walk on March 20. By the time fundraising concluded on May 1, the teams had surpassed the $25,000 goal, raising a total of $25,328.
The top four teams were:
- Disability Awareness: $5,308
- Business, Finance and Administration: $3,550
- Student Government/ASAP: $3,297
- Alumni: $2,407
Participants celebrated their team and individual accomplishments by walking eight laps around the college track - two miles - accompanied by 92.3 NOW radio broadcasting live.
Signs, banners, t-shirts and hats were emblazoned with team names such as We Mean Business (Business); Nuts and Volts (Engineering Technology); and A³ (The Education Academy and the Future Teacher Society).
“Our team organized a traveling bake sale that brought goodies to different locations around campus,” said Yecenia Congote, a Liberal Arts and Science student who works part-time for Single Stop at QCC.
The day culminated with the Harlem Shake, led by the Tiger, Queensborough’s official college mascot.
