"Early Alert System" Offers Students Academic Support

Published: September 17, 2012

This fall, Queensborough Community launched an electronic Early Alert system, a measure designed to flag and assist students early in the semester so that they have time to improve their academic performance.

The system allows for more efficient, streamlined communication between faculty members and advisors so students with attendance problems or other academic issues may obtain help from the instructor or the tutoring center.

Faculty have five opportunities throughout the semester to flag students who may be in trouble. The withdrawal deadline for students is November 9, 2012.

The initiative is made possible with the help of a grant from IBM and Queensborough's Information Technology department.
