[Javier Campos (Santiago, Chile) resides in the United States since 1977. He has published four books of poetry: Las últimas fotografías (Uruguay, Acali Editora, 1981); La ciudad en llamas (Chile, Ediciones LAR, 1986), Las cartas olvidadas del astronauta (EEUU, University of Miami, 1991). The latter obtained the first prize Letras de Oro in 1990. In 1998 he was a finalist in a context sponsored by the Casa de las Américas in Cuba for his book El astronauta en llamas (Chile: LOM, 2000). His poetry has appeared in anthologies and literary journals in Latin America, Europe and the United States. It has been translated into English. In 1995 he published his first novel, Los Saltimbanquis (Santiago, Chile: Editorial Red Internacional del Libro). At the present time Javier Campos is professor of Latin American literature at Fairfield, Connecticut. He writes regular columns in a major Chilean newspaper in Internet: www.elmostrador.cl.
