New Book Procedures for Direct Loan Borrowers

Effective immediately, book checks will no longer be issued for students receiving Direct Loans.  If you are eligible to receive a refund from a Federal Pell Grant, you will receive a Federal Pell Grant Book Advance payable on Friday, August 23rd.  If you have applied for a Direct Loan and it has been processed, the fall portion of the loan will be credited to your account at Queensborough Community College on Monday, September 9th.  If there are excess funds from your loan over and above the tuition and fees, a refund will be issued and payable to you on Friday, September 13th, 2013.

To allow ample time for processing of your loan, we encourage you to apply immediately if you plan to borrow.  Processing time is approximately 7-10 business days.  If you are selected for "verification" your loan cannot be processed until all requested documents are received and "verification" has ben completed.

If your loan has been processed, you will have the option of charging books at Barnes & Noble, the campus bookstore, using the excess funds from your loan, up to a maximum of $624.  Charging privileges will begin Friday, August 23rd and will extend through and including Wednesday, September 4th.  If you do not make your purchase by September 4th, you will have to wait until your loan is disbursed and a refund is issued.

If an account is set up for you at Barnes and Noble, you will receive an e-mail to your Tigermail e-mail beginning the week of Monday, August 19th, advising you that you can begin charging on Friday, August 23rd, and informing you of your charging maximum.

Sincerely,

Office of Financial Services
