About the Queensborough Community College Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance: The Department offers required and elective classes in health education and physical education for a number of degree programs at the College. The Department sponsors an A.A.S. degree in Massage Therapy and the Dance Concentration in the A.S. degree in Visual and Performing Arts. The Athletic program includes competitive team sports. Queensborough is seeking a Massage Therapy Instructor or Assistant Professor who will teach in the program and may also have administrative duties. The candidate will teach Eastern, Western, clinical, and science courses in Massage Therapy. Other duties may include operational responsibility, oversight of student progress, liaison with the Office of Professional Programs at NYSED to ensure the program meets NYS standards, coordination of the Advisory Board for the Massage Therapy program at Queensborough, and promotion of the program. Participation in academic advisement, department committees, program development, and assessment required. The candidate must be willing to become part of the culture of the College in terms of taking part in College committees and initiatives that carry out the mission of the College. For the Instructor title, scholarly activities are required for continued appointment; for Assistant Professor, scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Evening and/or weekend schedules may be required. Due to the specific requirements of this program, summer academic advisement duties (compensated) may be required.
For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Required for appointment as Instructor: Master's Degree, strongly preferred in education, social science, or a health-related field. Required for appointment as Assistant Professor: Doctoral Degree in education, social science, or a health-related field.
College teaching experience is preferred. The candidate must have experience teaching a broad range of appropriate courses. Experience in academic administration and curriculum development is strongly preferred. Experience with assessment and working with multi-cultural populations preferred. The candidate must be licensed as a Massage Therapist for at least 3 years and currently registered to practice Massage Therapy in New York State (per NYS regulations).
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
