Faculty Vacancy Announcement:

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The faculty member will teach Chinese language and literature; provide academic advisement and assistance to students during the semester and as part of the registration process; assist in the design and administration of placement procedures; assist in curriculum development and course assessment; provide services to the department and the college; teach some evening and weekend classes if required; and participate in the student club. Scholarly activities and publications required for tenure and promotion.

We are a diverse Faculty that values pedagogical inquiry and dedication to teaching. Our department is composed of seven language programs. Current initiatives include Service Learning, Writing Across the Curriculum, Learning Communities and online teaching. Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Doctorate in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics with emphasis on teaching Chinese as a second language required.

Preferred qualifications - Training in Chinese language teaching, applied linguistics, foreign language pedagogy; commitment to dynamic and effective undergraduate teaching for both language and literature courses; expertise/knowledge of the new trends in language pedagogy, computer-assisted instruction and educational technology, including assessment; ability to teach Business Chinese a plus; native or near-native fluency in both Mandarin and English; teaching experience in a community college; and ability to function effectively in a culturally diverse environment. 

Compensation:
