Faculty Vacancy Announcement:
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Teach Spanish language and Spanish/Latin American literature and culture courses, incorporating the latest technologies and pedagogical approaches. Perform research and publish in area of expertise. Provide language placement, academic advisement and assistance to students during the semester. Participate and work cooperatively in departmental and college activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development and grant preparation. Perform other administrative and supervisory functions as assigned.
As a Community College in the CUNY system, Queensborough offers a wide variety of courses for University transfer, general education, preparation for careers, and enrichment. Contractual teaching load is 27 contact hours for the academic year. Faculty on Assistant Professor tenure track receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship. Continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Evening or weekend teaching may be required. Position to start August 27, 2015. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers required and elective classes in foreign languages for a number of degree programs at the College, and sponsors a concentration in International Studies. For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.
For appointment at the Assistant Professor rank, a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Spanish/Latin American Literature, Applied Linguistics and/or Foreign Language Teaching from an accredited institution is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For appointment at the Instructor rank, ABD or equivalent in one or more of the areas listed above is required. ABD candidates must have finished their dissertation and must have scheduled a defense date.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Doctorate degree in hand
- College level teaching experience in a broad range of Spanish language and Spanish/Latin American literature and culture courses (Community College teaching experience preferred).
- Experience with instructional technology, and innovative, student-centered pedagogical practices including high-impact pedagogy (http://www.qcc.cuny.edu/academies/high-impact-practices.html).
- Experience with curricular development and program assessment.
- Experience teaching diverse college student populations.
- Research and publications in foreign language pedagogy and/or Spanish/Latin American literature and cultures.
