General Duties:

The Dean, reporting to senior executive management, oversees a school, division, academic program and/or function to enhance its profile, visibility, and effectiveness.  He/she develops long- and short-range plans, and exercises management responsibility for academic program planning, faculty matters, and administration, including staffing, budgets, and facilities.  He/she fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside the College as a strong advocate.

Queensborough Community College, a member college of The City University of New York (CUNY), is located on a 37-acre campus in Bayside, Queens, New York. The College invites applications for the position of Dean of Students. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Dean is responsible for leadership in areas including but not limited to Student Activities (including Student Government and student leadership development programs), Services for Students with Disabilities, Career Services, Counseling, The Center for International Affairs, Immigration, and Study Abroad, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, and Military & Veterans' Services; providing the vision for the programs that will enhance the student experience at the College and supervising staff responsible for implementing those plans; and performing other related duties as assigned. 

The Dean will serve as a member of the strategic team on student enrollment, admissions, registration, and financial aid matters. The Dean will also be called upon to represent the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management in his/her absence. 

Minimum Qualifications:

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. 

Other Qualifications:

An earned degree above the baccalaureate and at least eight (8) years' experience in a position with similar functions are required. 

The following are preferred qualifications:

- Extensive experience in supervising areas that fall within the jurisdiction of Student Life, including the management of a diverse staff

- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and demonstrated record of developing excellent interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators of a college

- Demonstrated experience and understanding of college student academic and co-curriculum factors leading to student success, as well as the range of student life issues and concerns

- Experience working in the areas of student conduct, discipline, and judicial affairs

- Experience working closely with campus security regarding student safety and wellness issues

- Strong presentation, conflict management, mediation, and group facilitation skills

- Computer proficiency using standard office software programs/applications 


The position is within CUNY Executive Compensation Plan, offers a competitive salary (commensurate with qualifications and experience) and benefits package, including annual leave, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
