CUNY Tech Works - Applied Software Development Program

Under CUNY TechWorks, Queensborough Community College (QCC) will offer an applied software development training covering web client programming, systems design and implementation, and smart phone application development. This hands-on, tech skills training program will culminate in a capstone application development class focused on building students' professional programming portfolios.

Credits earned can be applied towards our AAS degree in Information and Internet Technology. For QCC, CUNY TechWorks is first and foremost an employment and training program. Through regional industry partnerships, we will develop internship pathways that provide defined, work-based learning opportunities for participants to gain additional practical experiences.

This course introduces the use and features of Smartphones in modern life and how to create working smart phone applications. Registrants will create “apps” using the Intel XDK developer software. After this initial experience, basics of HTML 5 programming language will be introduced with a minimum of JavaScript programming to introduce the student to the needs of more advanced application development. Students will run their apps in the Emulator, and distribute apps into their smart phone environment. No programming knowledge necessary. Registrants can enroll for entire courses or per module sessions below.
