Job Opportunity: Summer SAT/ACT Class Tutor
Job Description: Legal Outreach is on the lookout for ten talented, knowledgeable SAT/ACT tutors who want to be part of a transformative experience that empowers youth from underserved populations. Last year, our Summer SAT course saw an average score increase of 307 points, with some students scoring over 500 points higher on their final exams. As you know, results like that make all the difference in the world when it comes time to apply to college. This year students will be preparing for the ACT. We will be hiring five Math/Science and five English/Reading tutors for an intensive summer session designed to prepare high school juniors for entrance into top 50 colleges and universities. Despite the "tutor" moniker, these instructors will be working with classrooms, not individuals. Each tutor will deliver a five-week curriculum of ACT material to a class of 10-12 students. Tutors will work in Math/Science – English/Reading teams to co-teach a classroom. For example, the English/Reading tutor may teach in the morning while the Math/Science tutor lesson plans and manages the classroom. Tutors will also observe separate workshops taught by test prep professionals to the same students, taking care to complement the lessons when planning their own. They will work from a developed curriculum while expanding exercises for their own students as needed. Orientation and training will be provided prior to start of the course, and tutors will work closely with permanent Legal Outreach staff who oversee the program. This is the perfect position for college students, alumni, and graduate students who excelled on the SATs or ACT and are interested in gaining valuable teaching and leadership experience while making a measurable difference in students' lives over the summer.

Job Opportunity: Aministrative Positions
Job Description: Most enticing for teachers new to the profession, Nevada is one of the few states that still offers a “30 years and out” retirement plan. This means that if you begin working at age 25, you can retire at age 55 with 75% of your average highest salary. Compare that with most other states, which have mandatory retirement ages of 60, 62, or 65 no matter how many years of service the employee completes, and require significant contributions on the part of the employee. In the CCSD, our starting teacher salary is $34,684. (For information related to licensed salary click here.) In another district, the starting salary might be higher; however, in CCSD, nearly all your entire retirement contribution is paid by us—a value equaling almost 25% of your base salary. Plus, you won’t pay anything into Social Security because of the top-flight state retirement system. This means you take home a greater percent of your paycheck than in other states/districts, where your paycheck could be reduced by 5% to 15% (or more), plus the Social Security reduction. If you’re an experienced teacher and want to earn Nevada retirement income after working in another state, you can work for five years here and be vested, able to collect Nevada retirement income at age 62. The longer you work in Nevada, the younger you can retire. Visit the Nevada Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) website for more information on your specific retirement situation. You can also find a brand new, 2000+ square foot home here, in a new neighborhood, for less than $250,000. In addition, we offer the following additional incentives: •Full employee medical benefits, accessible at a lower cost than many other states and districts •Holidays •Traditional 9-month and year-round positions available for teachers, and 9- , 10-, 11- and 12-month positions available for support staff roles •Ongoing professional support and development
