Teachers Aide

Description: To assist teachers with the supervision and care of children attending PreK at the Community Church of Douglaston. The goal of teachers at the Community Church of Douglaston PreK is to provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. Specific responsibilities included, but are not limited to the following: 1) Protect the safety of all children in the center. 2) Directly supervise children at all times. 3) Uses positive phrasing with children. 4) Communicates frequently with children throughout the day, naming objects, actions, using who, what, when, where, why, and open ended questions. 5) Exhibits behavior management consistent with Community Church of Douglaston PreK philosophy, including reflecting children's feelings, approaching children to speak with them, directing comments toward children's behavior, not at the children themselves, etc. 6) Co-plays/interacts with children during play activities both indoors and on the playground. 7) Treats each child with dignity and respect, recognizing the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the population.

Special Skills & Requirements * High School diploma plus experience working with children. * Willing to assist with toilet training. * Able to work cooperatively with the lead teachers and other staff. * Must have a love for working with young children. * Must have or be willing to obtain: 1. Medical Clearance 2. NYS background check (including fingerprinting) 3. Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid training References required
