Teaching Internship for College Students

Description: We're looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and intelligent college students who enjoy working with kids to join us as a Teaching Interns for 8 weeks of the 2015-16 academic year. The Pixel Academy Teaching Internship is not your typical college internship experience. Its much more fun. You won’t be doing data entry or coffee runs. You will be interning in a lively environment with cutting-edge technology and enthusiastic kids. We are a fast growing, innovative company. Check out our some of our press on CNN and the NY Times . The Teaching Internship is unpaid. College credit is available. Responsibilities will include: • Learning and mastering interactive technology topics such as game design or 3D printing and working with youth of varying ages and abilities to encourage their creativity • Creating new opportunities for kids to learn • Learning about and facilitating various responsibilities in a small, growing business • Assisting instructors with transitions and acting as a stand-in when necessary. • Acting silly and being a role model • Facilitating a fun learning environment • Having fun! Requirements Who do we take? We look for interns who are creative, enthusiastic about technology, or interested in education. We accept Interns who fall into these almost boundlessly broad categories: Designers, Developers, and Producers. Internship applicants may be seeking experience in alternative education, a particular skill (like Minecraft modding, web design, or DJing) or in working at a fast-growing small business. What do Teaching Interns do and what do they get from/for it? Teaching Interns are mentors and role models for members (ages 6-16) and teen SEALs (ages 12-16.) Teaching Interns gain experience in tech and teaching by leading self-driven workshops, assisting Instructors, and working one-on-one with members. In addition to professional experience, interns get access to state-of-the-art technology including 3D printers, a laser cutter, 3D scanners, and the Oculus Rift. When do they do it? Internships run in 8-week segments through the academic year - September, December, March, and May. Where? Cobble Hill, Brooklyn and/or the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
